Become a mentor

London South Bank University is inviting alumni from a range of different industries to participate in a mentoring scheme, as part of the LSBU Student Employability Awards.

Mentoring provides you with the satisfaction of helping others and seeing them progress, the opportunity to practice and develop management skills and the ability to share your experiences and transfer knowledge. Full training will be provided and you will be supported through the process.

What is the LSBU Employability Award?
The LSBU Employability Award includes four core elements: work experience, employability skills workshops, mentoring scheme and a leadership programme. It helps encourage first and second year students to assess the additional skills and experience necessary to secure their chosen career path. The students are then encouraged to develop these whilst studying for their degree. It is the mentoring scheme that we need LSBU graduates to participate in.

What will mentoring involve?
You will simply need to meet with your mentee four times during a twelve month period.  You will arrange the meetings with your mentee at your convenience.

We also encourage our mentors to provide a one day job shadow, however we understand this is not always possible.

What are the key dates?
The training day and the opportunity to meet your mentee will take place on Tuesday 29 March 2011 between 6.00 and 8.00pm at London South Bank University Elephant and Castle campus.

How do I apply?
If you would like to become involved in the scheme please fill in the application form (MSWord 34KB) and return before Monday 21 March 2011.
