Perry Library to undergo £1.9m refurbishment

This summer will see big changes taking place at the Perry Library. Improvements will be made across several floors and will hopefully make a big difference to its users.

So, what’s actually going to happen?

The project will improve the external entrance to the Perry Library and refurbish the ground floor entrance with a new reception desk, turnstile entrance, book return facilities and help-desk area.  On the West side, the former roller stack area is being refurbished to create a new silent study space with Wi-Fi and power points to facilitate laptop use.

The benefits from the project will include:

• A significant impact in the appearance of the site and highly visible enhancements of student-facing areas with a heavy footfall – the new entrance will be directly off Southwark Bridge Road.

• Improved conditions for users with mobility needs and to match the standard of improved buildings elsewhere on campus.

•Improved flow of traffic, relieving current blockages and the refurbishment of 1W will encourage greater use of the whole building

• The help-desk area will be modernised and separated from the more noisy entrance area to allow more effective service provision.

 • A state of the art automated book return facility will improve re-shelving times, reduce theft and reduce reservation disruption.

• The number of quiet study spaces within a self-contained area will be more than doubled.

Please note that work has been planned to coincide with the quieter period over the summer holidays, however, users of the library may notice some noise from the building works. When entering the library, please use the temporary signposted entrance at 1 West, instead of the usual entrance.

Finally, did you know that as Alumni of LSBU you can still visit the library and borrow books? All you need to do is apply for an Access Card – this allows you to visit the campus and gives you discount at the LSBU Sports Centre. If you wish to borrow items from the library you must purchase an Access Card with library borrowing rights, at a fee of £25 per year. This can all be done online at our website. Alternatively, you can book an appointment with the Alumni Office by getting in touch
