LSBU student publishes children's Christmas book

Breda Nuttall, a graduate of the Postgraduate Certificate in Careers Education course here at LSBU, has written and published her first book, now available on Kindle.

'From forest to fireside' available now on Kindles

 

Writing under the guise of Felicity Field, ‘From Forest to Fireside’ is a heart-warming children’s festive story. The book is Breda’s first and she recently spoke to the LSBU Alumni Association about the launch. ‘From Forest to Fireside’ tells the tale of aspiring Christmas trees and Breda’s inspiration for the book stems back to her own childhood; “I remembered writing a story about an aspiring Christmas tree when I was in primary school, everyone seemed to love it but eventually it was lost. ‘From Forest to Fireside’ is my new version and although not written through the eyes of a child, I hope it retains the magic and sense of adventure which inspired my storytelling all those years ago.”

As any author knows, support and input from others is a key ingredient of getting ideas from paper to publication. Breda’s niece and nephew helped with this; “We would spend hours chatting and having ‘team briefs’ making up daft scenarios and magic stories. I think it is so important for children to be encouraged to use their imaginations.”

Luckily, the writing and publication process was a smooth ride for Breda and she hopes to have the book available in hard back next year so that it is available to all readers, not just those on Kindle. 

Breda believes the skills she acquired on the Postgraduate Certificate in Careers Education as an LSBU student helped her during this process; “My course is all about supporting others to achieve their potential and realise their dreams. Creative writing is always something I’ve wanted to pursue and I thought it was time I took my own advice and got on with it.”

The illustrations in the book were designed and drawn by Natalie Simonis, a recent University graduate. Natalie is represented by children’s book illustrators Beehive Illustrations Ltd and ‘From forest to fireside’ is her first major project since finishing her studies.
