Become a King's College Hospital Governor

Would you like to stand for election for King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts' Council of Governors?

King’s College Hospital has a Council of Governors which ensures that the key stakeholders – patients, members of the public, staff and partner organisations – have a say in shaping their local health service. It represents the interests of more than 20,000 public, patient and staff members. 

Nominations are now open for 8 public governors (four in Lambeth and four in Southwark) and 6 patient governors – to join King’s Council of Governors. The Council of Governors needs your help in shaping the future of the hospital and the local health economy. If you have a background in health and feel passionate about the health service and patient care in the UK then you could stand for election as a Governor. 

Standing for election is a fantastic chance to get your voice heard and help King’s meet the needs of local people. It will also allow you to gain valuable experience in the following areas:

  • Find out more about local health services and meet staff and patients 
  • Help the Trust connect with your peers
  • Ensure the views of younger people who use the Trust services are heard
  • Help appoint the Trust’s Chair, Non-Executive Directors and Chief Executive 
  • Hold the Trust Board of Director’s to account for the performance of the Board 
  • Enhance your CV 


To stand for election, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a member of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation and aged 16 or over at the time of nominations (you can easily become a member, free of charge, please see below for instructions)
  • Belong to one of the constituencies and class where there is a vacancy:
  1. Public – members residing in the London Boroughs of Lambeth or Southwark OR
  2. Patient – members who have attended King’s as a patient in preceding 6 years and reside outside the London Boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark, Bromley and Lewisham or a Patient Carer
