Alumni Live Music Night Review

The LSBU Alumni Association recently hosted the first Alumni Live Music Night with special guests The Thirst headlining the evening with support slots from some of London’s rising musical talents.

The evening was held in conjunction with GE Lifestyle, a web channel celebrating fashion and the arts created by LSBU alumnus Roger R Moore. Alumni were welcomed to The Venue Bar, LSBU’s new student social zone and part of the recently opened Student Centre. For many, it was the first time they had come back to campus since graduation. It was a chance to catch up with former friends and colleagues as well as meeting current LSBU students who were celebrating the end of their exams.

The evening kicked off with acoustic sets from a variety of London musicians who have all made successful appearances on GE Lifestyle. Ivory Heroes, whose vocalist Elijah John pushes the musical boundaries with their jazz-rock sounds, began proceedings and set the tone for the night. RnB/Pop singer Rotimo Soul soon took to the stage and delivered a powerful vocal performance which captured the attention of the entire audience. Up next was Mariama, accompanied with her guitarist, who delivered contemporary renditions of traditional pop classics. Finally Sadia McEwan, a north London-based singer songwriter, proved why she is one of the capital’s fastest rising unsigned talents with soulful grooves and searing vocals.

The stage was then set for The Thirst, a classic rock four-piece from Brixton, to deliver a rousing set to the expectant audience who were now in the mood for dancing. The highlight of their performance came when they played a funky version of “Get Lucky”, the current Daft Punk dance hit, which was greeted with loud cheers and a chance for the audience to test their own vocal talents. At the end of their set, The Thirst was charged with cries of “encore” from the audience and they duly complied by playing one more song from their recently released EP, “Laugh with the Sinners”.

The LSBU Alumni Association was delighted to see so many former students come back to enjoy this evening of live music at LSBU and we look forward to hosting the next session in the future.
