LSBU hosts the 2014 Screentest Festival

The University is playing host to the 2014 edition of Screentest: The National Student Film Festival from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 March.

Chris Nunn, LSBU alumnus and director of Screentest

Celebrating its tenth anniversary, the festival was founded at Bristol University in 2004 and made the move to London in 2011. Screentest is a way for young screenwriters, directors, actors and producers to showcase their talent and gain exposure within the industry. It is a three day event that exhibits over 100 student-made short films from all over the UK, as well as also providing educational talks, workshops and bespoke screenings.

Chris Nunn, LSBU Alumnus of the BA and MA Digital Film, is the festival’s director and was responsible for bringing it to London:

“Screentest made the move to London to enhance its national status and reach both the film industry and student population. The response has been fantastic; we’ve had record submissions and record attendances.”

This year there have been around 280 submissions, 100 more than last year. This is a fantastic boost for the festival and for LSBU as its hosts. To celebrate its tenth anniversary, Screentest plan to invite all of its previous nine winners and the previous directors from its days in Bristol. This is a great chance to showcase the festival’s history and celebrate its successes.

Having recently graduated, Chris now has plans of further study with a long-term ambition to work in film curation or teaching:

"'From my experience at LSBU, teaching at summer schools and managing the festival, I have decided to pursue a PhD specialising in film education. I've loved my time at LSBU and the location is awesome, just a stone's throw from the heart of central London. I also feel like the staff have a lot of time to help students and that's very important."
