Arnold du Toit won the judges vote as Britain’s Best Young Entrepreneur by PC World Business with his creation of the ‘RolleyGolf’, the world’s first powered golf trolley you can ride on.
The competition was developed to find and reward the UK’s best young entrepreneur and their business ideas. The prize for the winner include free mentoring from the UK’s most successful entrepreneurs including, Jamie Murray Wells, founder of Glasses Direct and Hew Leith, M&C Saatchi PR. The winner will also have access to the latest business technology and free stylish office space.

After securing first place with his design of ‘RolleyGolf’ Arnold’s business has taken off. The powered ride on golf trolley comes in three different specifications, entry level, top level, and the limited edition bespoke model. It has been designed so it is remote controllable and can fold up smaller than competitive products to fit comfortably into a car boot.

Arnold came up with the idea when studying for his BSc Engineering Product Design at LSBU. After graduating in 2009 a friend of his on the course suggested that he continued his masters in enterprise, through The Enterprise Associate Scheme.

The Enterprise Associate Scheme, act as investors for small start-ups providing Arnold with the guidance and financial support he needed to develop his product, industry contacts to help him expand his business, whilst compiling the appropriate modules needed to achieve his masters qualification.

Arnold launched ‘RolleyGolf’ in 2009, went to trade in 2010 and completed his MSc Enterprise in 2011. Although he has completed his course Arnold is still in close contact with the University and has use of the services and office space for another year, to help him expand the business.  He has just attended Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa as the start of his world tour promoting his brand. He was featured on SuperSport Live TV, and the top 5 South African radio Stations. Arnold is keen to have a strong presence at golf events and has been invited to attend Golf Live in May.

There is opportunity for Arnold to extend his brand by supplying large numbers of ‘RolleyGolf’ to golf clubs, for rental to their members. Arnold is also exploring the opportunity to use the design mechanism of ‘RolleyGolf’ and adapt it so that it can be used in factories for heavy lifting and transporting.
