On June 11th and 12th 2015, addiction researchers from around the UK and US travelled to LSBU to present their latest studies, share experiences and exchange ideas at a round table event.

The first class to study BA Business Studies at LSBU then known as South Bank Polytechnic reunited to mark 40 years since graduating.

LSBU’s Department of Engineering and Design has recently validated an innovative portfolio of five new Engineering Masters courses. Alumnus David Gerrard, BA (Hons) 2.1 Architecture, proves it’s never too late to pursue your dreams. After retirement, David returned to study in his mid 70s and is now pursuing a career in architecture. David spoke to the LSBU Alumni Association about his life before, during and after studying at LSBU. 

After months of training, build-up and verbal exchanges between the students and alumni, the second annual Alumni vs. Students Sports Day took place this weekend and welcomed over 100 hundred alumni, students, staff and guests.

The Borough Road Gallery presents ‘Recognising Dorothy Mead: David Bomberg, the Slade and After’, which will run between 26 April – 27 July 2013. Dorothy Mead is a significant twentieth century artist and the exhibition showcases her first ever solo display in a public gallery.

Ivor Scarlett graduated from LSBU in 1952 (then known as the Borough Polytechnic Institute) having studied Metallurgy and English. Following his early career in high-tech manufacturing, Ivor moved into Electronics and was part of the team that launched the UK’s first space satellites.

The Royal Academy of Arts presents the first major exhibition in the UK to showcase David Hockney’s landscape work. Vivid paintings inspired by Yorkshire landscape, many large in scale and created specifically for the exhibition, will be shown alongside related drawings and films. LSBU Association members have a chance to win tickets.

LSBU alumnus Terry Edwards has just had his first novel, Spheres of Deception published. The book is available to purchase at Waterstones (Baker Street) or on Amazon and Terry is now looking to turn it into a screen play.

Thank you to everyone who voted for fellow Alumnus Alex King in the British Home Awards. We are very pleased to announce that architects Alex King of Designalexable and Edward King (retired) won the Future Homes category of the British Homes Awards 2011 for their design of the Santiago Townhouse.

It is the fifth year of the British Home Awards where today's architects can demonstrate their eco innovations. This year LSBU alumnus, Alex King has entered his design of the Santiago Townhouse which has been selected for the final five.

Hitesh Tailor, 1979 Business Studies alumnus, is leaving a legacy to the University in his will. He hopes others will do to same.

The Guardian University Guide league tables published on 17 May, have shown that London South Bank University has gained 14 places to number 100.

Alumni win the day in the annual alumni v students football match. Every year LSBU alumni battle against current students in the annual LSBU Alumni Football match. The match is played in memory of former student, Glen Paveley, who sadly passed away whilst studying in 2005. Ben Newson, who played for the alumni side has written his account of the match which was played on the 6 April.

London South Bank University has recently announced it plans to charge tuition fees of an average of £8,390 per annum from September 2012 onwards for its undergraduate full time programmes. Vice Chancellor, Professor Martin J Earwicker, provides the context for this decision.

A Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) is a threeway project between a graduate, an organisation and a university. A KTP looks for top-quality graduates who want to accelerate their career growth by getting their teeth into a 24 to 36 month high-profile industry project.
