LSBU drives forward Pride in London 2015

LSBU will parade an open top London bus at Pride in London 2015, as thousands of Londoners take to the streets to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) culture.

LSBU Pride 2015

Since 2012, Pride in London has provided a platform for every part of London’s LGBT+ community to raise awareness of issues concerning LGBT+ people and campaign for the freedoms to live their lives free from discrimination.

The annual Pride in London Parade will take place on Saturday 27th June and, for the third year running, LSBU will march proudly through the heart of London’s West End. Last year, 35 LSBU staff and students led from the front of the parade resplendent in yellow t-shirts. This year, the University will be parading with an open top London Routemaster bus and alumni are invited to come along and show their support.

The world’s first Pride Parade occurred in 1970 in direct retaliation to the events of the previous year when New York Police officers raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in Greenwich Village. The first official London Pride Rally took place in 1972 and, with over 50 LGBT Pride events throughout the country today, the capital attracts huge crowds is the only annual event to close the iconic Oxford Street.

LSBU’s Routemaster will run from Baker Street to Whitehall via the West End from 11:00am on Saturday 27th June. If you would like to join LSBU at Pride in London 2015, simply contact the LSBU Diversity Network by emailing s.o.network@lsbu.ac.uk for more information.
