Quantity Surveying alumni across the world reunite

Graduates of the Quantity Surveying programme were welcomed back to LSBU for a special reunion to celebrate their achievements, rekindle friendships and share their varied experiences with current QS students.

Since 1961, LSBU has enabled students to study and qualify as chartered surveyors through its strong emphasis on practical skills, professional accreditation by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and links with industry.

The reunion was a chance for QS alumni across the years to reconnect with each other and former tutors. Many were also celebrating graduation milestones as the 1990 cohort returned to the University 25 years since leaving Wandsorth Road, the former home of the Faculty of the Built Environment.

Alumnus Harvey Smith (BSc Quantity Surveying, class of 1990) was unable to attend the reunion due to overseas commitments, but still managed to reconnect with former classmates via Skype: “Thanks so much to the Alumni team for all their efforts. It was a shame I couldn’t be there in person but it was great to catch up with my old friends on Skype. Some of us travelled Europe after graduating and even settled out there. I also rekindled some past friendships during the evening, so some great things have come from this memorable reunion.”

Dr Alex Opoku, Course Director for MSc Quantity Surveying at LSBU, delivered a welcome speech to guests and spoke to the LSBU Alumni Association about this truly unique course: “LSBU has a long history of training Quantity Surveying professionals and it was a pleasure to welcome back our alumni, many of whom now hold key positions across the sector around the world. Their experience and knowledge is invaluable to inspire current QS students to follow the same path to success.”
