European Business Certificate Reunion
Former students of the European Business Certificate (EBC) programme recently returned to LSBU for a special reunion held at the new Student Centre after twenty years since they were last together.
EBC graduates reunite after 20 years since graduating from LSBU
The European Business Certificate was the first postgraduate aimed at non-UK students developed in the Business faculty of the University. Almost 20 students completed the programme each year during the 1980s and 90s, coming from Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Greece and Portugal. This postgraduate course was recognised by the European Economic Community (now European Union) and provided business studies graduates with the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of business studies in a European context.
Graduating students from the 1992/3 cohort returned to campus to reminisce, catch up with familiar faces and see the new state-of-the-art Student Centre. Mike Rigby, Director of the Centre for International Business Studies and former EBC Lecturer, was in attendance to meet his former students and spoke to the LSBU Alumni Association about the experience: “It was a tremendous pleasure to meet up with some of these students after they finished the programme. Above all it was gratifying to learn how they had progressed professionally in the intervening period and how they recognized the contribution of their programme at the South Bank to their development. They had all made a lot of friends at the university, many of whom they had retained. Three of them had subsequently settled in the UK and were bringing up their children here. The experience of the initiative stresses the importance of maintaining contact with our former students and building on this relationship.”
