Informatics alumni reception and master class

The Department of Informatics and LSBU Alumni Association are delighted to invite all LSBU Informatics alumni to a special master class by Chris Miller, Regional Vice President of Dell Software Group. This is a unique opportunity to listen to an industry leader, who has held a number of key management and executive roles at some of the UK's top IT companies and is also a founding member of the E Skills organisation.

The talk will cover a number of topics including: emergent technologies and the challenge of managing the shift from LAN-based computing out to the new perimeter (mobile devices, cloud, and ultimately, people).  Chris will also give a unique insight into "the Dell approach". You can read his full biography below.

The event also provides an excellent opportunity for you to update your professional skills and reconnect with former classmates, other IT professionals and LSBU Informatics staff.

Speaker profile - Chris Miller, Regional Vice President, Dell Software Group

Robert Humphreys

Chris joined Dell Software Group in October 2012, and is responsible for Sales across UK, Ireland, Benelux, and Scandinavia.
Chris has been providing services to the UK’s IT industry for 30 years, experienced in software, IT services, managed hosting and cloud services. He has held a number of key management and executive roles at different companies, including Senior Vice President and General Manager of CA UK, CEO of DediPower Managed Hosting, and most recently Sales Director at Logicalis. Prior to CA, Chris demonstrated his entrepreneurial skills as Co-Founder of the UK start-up of MAXM Systems.

A strong team builder, Chris has brought energy, enthusiasm and humour to motivate his teams and led them to become world-class organisations. He is experienced in establishing board level relationships with the associated commercial skills required to win multi-million pound complex deals.

At Logicalis, Chris was responsible for introducing Solution focused Business Units to enable the traditional reseller to transition to more of a solution focused delivery.

In just a year as CEO at DediPower, he turned a revenue decline of two quarters into four quarters of solid growth – 36% YoY increase in Monthly Recurring Revenue, whilst managing growth in EBITDA of 64% for the same period.

At CA, he grew new business in recessionary times: In 2008, new business contract values were increased by 15%. In 2009, the growth was 32%. He also established the Senior Executive Forum, developing strong personal relationships with many large enterprise CIOs in the UK and Ireland.

Under his Leadership of the UK Business, Employee Satisfaction reached an all-time high and, on behalf of CA, Chris collected the award for leading CA to a Sunday Times Top 100 Company to work for.

Chris also contributes through voluntary time and effort in two primary areas: improving the UK’s Skills delivery, and raising funds for critical causes. Chris was one of the original founders of the Employer Steering Forum for ITMB. Chris has consistently made a difference for others through his activities and is currently trying to raise over £10,000 for the Prince’s Trust through a full year challenge.

Chris was welcomed in to the 100th City of London Livery, the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists in January 2009. He was also granted the Freedom of the City of London in May 2009.

Chris is married with two children, both at university. He is a keen supporter of the Prince’s Trust Technology Leadership Group. He also provides Non-Executive Director duties to smaller companies. In his spare time, Chris is a keen golfer, supports Chelsea FC, and also enjoys music and travel.
