BSc Construction Management, 1996

Robert Humphreys

Mark Ramessa is Supply Chain Director at Morgan Sindall, one of the UK’s leading construction and infrastructure companies. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building and Chairman in the West Midlands.

“I first became interested in construction at a young age. My father was a Heating and Electrical Engineer and occasionally I would accompany him to work, which I found fascinating and was constantly asking him questions and getting my hands dirty.”

This early exposure led to a career in construction and, after gaining the Higher National Certificate, Mark chose to pursue a degree and considered the options: “LSBU stood out. The construction course was broad in scope and the facilities were the best in London.”

Mark now leads the procurement and supply chain division at Morgan Sindall Construction and Infrastructure. He is responsible for £1.4 billion of spend across a vast array of projects including schools, offices, rail, highways, aviation and tunnels: “I have been down some of the deepest tunnels ever constructed and up the tallest towers in the UK. My day-to-day is never the same which I love.” He recently collaborated with the Qatari Government to improve the country’s worker conditions focusing on the 2022 World Cup.

Graduating from a recognised London university helped him stand out from the pack: “Having the right qualifications really helped. Many of my former classmates now work at similar companies, some at Managing Director level. I recommend that students stay in contact with each other after they graduate. These are the networks that can help throughout your career.”

Professionally accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the BSc Construction Management degree course provides technical and managerial expertise in construction, and an up-to-date knowledge of legislation and regulations.
